Real Estate Agents: “Good or Bad?”

March 28, 2007

A year or so ago T-Mobile started to run ads featuring long winded talkers. Among the personalities were a Jr. High Cheerleader, a Business Man, and a duplicitous Realtor.

As a Realtor, I think the ad is pretty funny. However, the Association of which I’m a member does not. The NAR quickly petitioned T-Mobile to remove word Realtor from the commercial. Needless to say, T-Mobile did not comply and the ad continues to run occasionally in it’s original form.

My question is how does the public view real estate agents? Where do we fall on the “trustworthiness scale”. Do we have the confidence of the public to fairly represent our clients in the largest transactions of their lives or are we seen as opportunists who would sell out our grandmothers?

Any honest thoughts are welcome.

Since the real estate agents I know are good people, my vies may be a bit biased. Where I imagine most of the public puts real estate agents though, is above used car salesmen, but below corporate CEO’s. Well, maybe about on par with CEO’s after Enron. Slightly above politicians though.
