Housing Crisis Over?

May 13, 2008

Is the national housing crisis over?

The Wall Street Journal seems to think so. In an article published on May 6th the Wall Street Journal says that it is likely that the housing market bottomed out in April.

Coincidently, King County’s Median Price was down 4.8% under April of 07′, Average Price was down 3.7%. Those are the lowest month over month numbers we’ve seen since the current housing crisis hit.

Let’s hope the Wall Street Journal is right.

Rumor has it that Washington Mutual is going to lay off 8-10 thousand people, a lot of those in the Seattle area. And when the Safeco sale is finalized, there’s a chance Liberty Mutual could lay off all 2,000 Puget Sound employees too. If those things happen, I’m afraid it’s going to criple not only the housing market in this area, but the local economy in general. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
